It could well be the material of the barrel, the stock barrel on my SA80 became unusable after about half a day shooting bio at UA whilst my M4 with a Systema barrel has never had any of this white waxy residue on it even after a full day at UA. So maybe it's the bio bbs reacting with the different types of metal in different barrels?

Or it could have just been a bad batch of BBs... ?

Well i really dont think its the barrels. (soon find out though, i have changed it for the next game)
Ive been playing for years with the same guns, using the Bio BB's sinse it came in and this is the first time i have ever had any problems in any way like this this.
The thing is i managed to clean the barrel out during the day and it was totally free of gunk but after only playing the "defending the bridge game" it was full of crap again and BB's were flying off everywhere.
Now the thing is i did fire quite a few BB's of during that game and as i say the rate of fire is very fast so im still thinking it could be something to do with friction.

Nukem.........

Hi guys,

We are looking into this and we are going to be contacting the BB supplier.

Hi all,

We have had a reply from the supplier.

Quote:
I have not had any previous complaints and the Swedes, Belgians,
Germans, Italians and Fins have now got through a good few tonnes.

I have also not had any complaints from my own players I have spoken to
our gunsmith who repairs most of the guns that players have and our
rentals and he says he had this once on one of his G36 ( cause unknown )
which he had to clean but it has never repeated itself. And he has had
no problems with any other of his guns including tightened barrels.

Obviously we will keep an eye on this. what is strange is that we have not been having any real problems with our hire AEGs that i know of. will be checking this of course.

I recently changed the barrel on my ics m4, as recently the bb's had been spitting out everywhere, just had a close look at the original barrel and its the same problem, loads of flaky white stuff on the inside of the barrel!

Si, are the bags beening stored in geoff garage?, As i had a bag last month that had white specks on the balls, I have the problem in my guns with Systema Barrels and winter times,

The only other time is if ive had the bag of ball any longer than 2 months

Could be the -°c weather is degrading the ammo faster when beeing stored

I've just done a complete clean of my sons gun, a JG M4S with the original polished brass barrel (claimed to be 6.05mm (tight-bore???)) which has a fair ROF and shoots at 350fps
The barrel was very dirty but did not have any white wax inside the barrel or hop-up. we ONLY use UA bio BBs (the free pack of white BBs are still unused!)
The BB's were 1 month old as we over-bought the previous game.

Is there a difference between the brass and chrome barrels??

I'll get the lads I play with to check their barrels?.
EDIT:

Ive just check the BB's stored in my plasic bottle loaders... Some of the bio is covered in white wax....

Is there a recommened storage or shelf life for these BBs?
They are supposed to completly rot away within 18 months .. what happens if you use them as they are starting to soften?

I did have this very problem myself but this was late last year.
My Aug late in the day started to look like it was snowing as the bbs came out the end and went wild.
I thought it was me or my gun but it seems like the same problem.

So it would appear to be a storage problem then.
I better make sure that any opened bags in future are kept in the warm.
Maybe put them in the airing cupboard (not sure the Mrs will be impressed though).

Its just a thought Si but where do you keep the BB's that are used on the Chrono? (its been very cold and damp this year).
I know you said the site guns were clean but maybe that could be because you dont have to put them through the Chrono!

Seems this one will run for a while yet !

Nukem.............

Possibly, will make sure a new bag gets opened for chrono this week.

Sorry to shoot down latest theory, but I originally noticed it was happening with my M249...

I normally use my box mag for chrono, as easier to open the cover and show BBs inside than disconnec the box mag to fit UA chrono STANAGs. I also tend to get through a 'few' BBs  each skirmish, so have a fairly high usage rate and if any spare BBs left then they are stored with the rest of my kit in a warm dry environment.

I still think its prob something to do with tightbore barrels/ROF.

Had a quick google and it seems a common issue with bios, as they have an outer coat of wax/plastic/glue which prevents BBs breaking down too soon... Plain plastic BBs are pretty inert and resistant to weather conditions; good quality ones are polished/lack seams so don't have any residue or bits that which wear against barrel...

I had this as well.
I fixed it by getting a thin strip of wire... Used in morrisons, asda, etc for cutting cheese. took the barrel off and threaded the wire through... Added an extra handle and just scraped away round the sides.

Got it clean after 10 mins.

Here are my experiences with this problem.

I regularly use two AEGs only (G&G L85 and ARES Tavor) my others are spares and only come out once in a blue moon.

My L85 barrel DOESNT have any problem with waxing up (it has a tightbore fitted)

My Tavor barrel is usually thoroughly coated with wax (but I believe it does not have a tightbore)

Both AEGs fire at approx the same FPS

The Tavor has a marginally higher RoF.

Might try my G&P CQBR sometime as that has a high RoF

I use RainX anti mist to remove the wax in my barrel. Seems to work a treat
